Sleep Apnea and Snoring Treatment in Calgary, AB

For decades people who suffered from obstructive sleep apnea and chronic snoring only had one option to remedy the situation – a CPAP machine that many complained were either too cumbersome to use or didn’t work.

But there’s a new option that is less cumbersome and has been proven to work for many. It’s oral appliance therapy. At Comfort Care Dental, we offer this option to our patients, because your comfort is our priority!

What is Oral Appliance Therapy?

Also known as OAT, Oral Appliance Therapy is a dental device that the patient wears while they are sleeping. It helps alleviate both snoring and obstructive sleep apnea. The device is an oral appliance that looks very similar to a mouth guard, which means it’s much less cumbersome than a CPAP.

What’s Involved in OAT?

Much like a custom mouth guard for sports, oral appliance therapy involves a custom fitting by a dental specialist like the ones at Comfort Care Dental in Calgary, AB. Once the fitting is complete, and the device is made, it is worn at night to help control snoring and assure a better night’s sleep!

Is There More Than One Option For Sleep Apnea in SW Calgary?

Although there are many types of oral devices used to control snoring and sleep apnea, they generally fall into one of two categories — a mandibular advancement device or a tongue retaining device. The first option involves the repositioning of your lower jaw to keep your airway open as you sleep, and the second option involves the placement of your tongue into a soft oral device which then allows you to breathe through your nose.

What Benefits Can I Expect to Receive?

Oral appliance therapy helps to restore the quality and duration of your sleep by eliminating snoring and sleep apnea. And because of this better night’s sleep, you’ll also lower your risk of stroke, heart disease, and other life-threatening conditions.

But Wait, There’s More!

Apart from reducing the risks already mentioned, oral appliance therapy will improve your overall well-being and restore your daily energy.
