Dental Bridges in Calgary, AB

It may sound like a funny name, but a dental bridge is exactly what it sounds like – a procedure to bridge the gap between one or more missing teeth.

It’s comprised of two or more crowns for the teeth on either side of the gap, and a false (or prosthetic) tooth in between.

Some Benefits of a Dental Bridge

Apart from the greatest benefit which is the restoration of your smile, a bridge can also help restore your ability to chew, maintain the shape of your face, and prevent your remaining teeth from shifting out of position and causing gaps which could lead to other ongoing conditions.

There’s More Than One Type of Bridge

Comfort Care Dentistry in Calgary, AB can recommend the bridge that’s best-suited for your particular case, but in general, there are three types of dental bridges: traditional bridges, cantilever bridges, and Maryland bonded bridges.

Traditional bridges are the most common, hence their name. Cantilever bridges are not used as commonly as they once were since they’re not recommended in the back of the mouth. Maryland bonded bridges, which are also called a resin-bonded bridge, are made of plastic teeth and gums supported by a metal or porcelain framework.

After Care is Important

Since your goal for a happy, healthy smile is to keep your remaining teeth as healthy and strong as possible, oral hygiene is paramount. This includes brushing twice a day, flossing, and using an antiseptic mouthwash daily help prevent tooth decay and gum disease that can lead to tooth loss.

By keeping a regular cleaning schedule, you and your dentist will be able to diagnose problems sooner rather than later and suggest treatment as necessary. Your comfort is our priority! We’ll be sure to suggest treatments only if they are necessary.

Durability and Cost

With good oral hygiene and regular checkups, dental bridges can last up to 15 years or longer. The cost of your bridge will vary depending on the type of bridge and any other procedures that may need to be performed in advance of the dental bridge work.
